REVIEW

This fun board book brings back Kitty-Corn and her friends, Unicorn, Gecko, and Parrot. The book begins with the friends highlighting their own unique versions of various body parts. After comparing tails, the friends are surprised when an octopus in glasses pops up with 'tentacles' (which are really arms--a fact noted on the back cover). After going through several more body parts (tongues, backs, and toes), none of which Octopus has, the creature gets more and more uncertain and sad. When Kitty-Corn and company realize what's happening, they come up with a way to include Octopus. This cute story of inclusion highlights not only body parts but that all can be appreciated and included whatever their differences. Pham's adorable illustrations blend nicely with Hale's brief text with the facial expressions taking center stage. And one can't help but admire Octopus's efforts to join the group. Don't all children need to feel like they belong? Perfect for sharing one-on-one with gentle reminders of being kind and including others. Recommended.
