Armchair BEA: Experts Say...

Image
Today's topic is Ask The Experts . In your post, ask the visitors to your blog for blogging advice. What did you always want to know about blogging but were afraid to ask? Now is the time!  Here are some things that I've been thinking about and could definitely use some help with. Starting a Meme: I'm thinking of starting my own meme highlighting some of the best fictional settings in children's books.  What do you think is the best way to go about this? What are some ways to further publicize my blog in positive ways Thanks!

Armchair BEA: Beyond the Blog

Image
For this entry I will be considering the following questions brought up on the main Armchair BEA page : Has blogging opened up opportunities for you beyond getting free, advance copies of new books? Has it helped you get offers to write or review elsewhere (maybe even for pay)? Have you gotten invites to special events or places you might not have been to otherwise?  I don't really have much to say on this entry.  I've been blogging for just over a year and while my blog has and is growing and developing, I still have a long way to go before the blog is exactly what I want it to be.  I'm hoping to make some positive changes over the summer to make my blog more attractive and user friendly.  In the meantime here's where I'm at. I have been receiving books from authors for review which I enjoy.  I like helping authors promote their work as well as share good books with my readers.  I've also enjoyed making more personal connections with some autho...

Let's Talk Networking

Image
To be honest, networking is not really one of my strengths.  This is something I continue to work on.  I have made contact with some great publishers and am currently starting to participate in some blog tours which I am excited about. As far as local networking goes, my blog enables me to share good books with the other school librarians in my district.  I started out creating lists and emailing them out every couple of months, but I simply didn't have the time to keep doing it. I decided that a blog would allow me to share books one or two at a time, which took a lot less time from my work days.  We meet once a month to talk about various issues of concern to the whole group and one of those meetings is devoted to talking about book recommendations. I do so love talking about books.  These meetings are never long enough. :) As far as the future goes, I'm hoping to share my blog with the local library association that involves all the local libraries, scho...

Best of 2012: Books I'm Looking Forward To

Image
Here are a few books that I'm looking forward to. A Thunderous Whisper (October 9, 2012) by Christina Diaz Gonzales Ani believes she is just an insignificant whisper of a 12-year-old girl in a loud world. This is what her mother tells her anyway. Her father made her feel important, but he's been off fighting in Spain's Civil War, and his voice in her head is fading. Then she meets Mathias. His family has just moved to Guernica and he's as far from a whisper as a 14-year-old boy can be. Ani thinks Mathias is more like lightning. A boy of action. Mathias's father is part of a spy network and soon Ani finds herself helping him deliver messages to other members of the underground. She's actually making a difference in the world. And then her world explodes. The sleepy little market town of Guernica is destroyed by Nazi bombers. In one afternoon Ani loses her city, her home, her mother. But in helping the other survivors, Ani gains a sense of her ...

Armchair BEA 2012: Introduction First

Image
I'm excited to participate in Armchair BEA this year. I thought about it last year, but not only was I new to the blogging scene, but I had just finished school. This year I feel more up to participating. Here is my 'self' interview. Enjoy! Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?  I am a currently single school librarian who loves to talk about books.  While I get to do this to a certain degree in my job, I've found writing things down not only helps me remember what I've read and what I thought about what I read.  I also use the blogs to share the books I've read with my local colleagues.  I've found this is easier than creating long lists and emailing them to everybody.  I've been blogging for 1 year and 4 months and am really enjoying it. What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2012? I've read some great books t...
