Jacqueline Wilson Part 1: Hetty Feather series plus GIVEAWAY
Jacqueline Wilson's books are being released in the U.S. for the first time as e-books. I'm sharing both the UK covers and the new U.S. versions. I'll let you decide which you like best. I will say that the one version definitely gives the series a younger feel.
ABOUT THE BOOK
London, 1876 and Hetty Feather is just a tiny baby when her mother leaves her at the Foundling Hospital. The Hospital cares for abandoned children - but Hetty must first live with a foster family until she is big enough to go to school.
Life in the countryside is hard but with her 'brothers' Jem and Gideon, she helps in the fields and plays imaginary games. Together they sneak off to visit the travelling circus and Hetty is mesmerised by the show, especially Madame Adeline and her performing horses.
But Hetty's happiness is threatened once more when she is returned to the Foundling Hospital. The new life of awful uniforms and terrible food is a struggle for her. But now she has the chance to find her real mother. Could she really be the wonderful Madame Adeline? Or will Hetty find the truth is even more surprising?
Jacqueline Wilson will surprise and delight old fans and new with this utterly original take on a historical novel. Set in Victorian times and featuring a brand new feisty heroine, Hetty Feather, this is a Tracy Beaker-esque tale that will thrill young readers. Warm, moving, funny and totally fascinating, it's the perfect gift for girls of eight and older.
A fantastic new adventure for brave, feisty Hetty Feather - one of Jacqueline Wilson's most well-loved characters.
Since leaving the Foundling Hospital, Hetty has seen her fair share of drama, excitement, tragedy and loss. After the death of her beloved mama, she sets off to find a real home at last - starting with the search for her father.
But Hetty is no longer a simple country girl, and begins to fear she'll never truly belong anywhere. And even when she is reunited with her beloved childhood sweetheart Jem, Hetty still longs for adventure - especially when an enchanting figure from her past makes an unexpected reappearance. Could a more exciting future lie ahead for Hetty?

REVIEW
Hetty Feather is a fiery young girl who wants a home and a family. At first she thinks she has one until she discovers that what she has always considered her home is just temporary. This breaks her heart, but she refuses to let the foundling home break her the way it has some of the others. Hetty does get herself into plenty of trouble along the way, as she searches for a place to really belong. The whole series follows her as she endures the foundling home and then goes out to find her place in the world. She meets many people along the way, some who help her and some who don't, but who all leave there mark on her.
Strengths: Hetty is the kind of main character that it's easy to root for and makes for an entertaining story. The circus parts are quite fun as well.
Weaknesses: Another orphan story but without the magic of a Harry Potter, probably won't be quite as appealing to as many kids.
