EARLY READER REVIEW : Ling & Ting's Lunar New Year: Two Times Lucky

ABOUT THE BOOK
REVIEW
The latest entry in the Ling & Ting series finds the sisters celebrating the Lunar New Year. But when Ting accidentally tosses the dust (bad luck from the previous year) from the floor out the front door, the girls are frightened that the New Year will bring back the bad luck. In an effort to save their year the girls decide to welcome the new year through the side door by decorating there instead of the front door. Each of the following chapters finds the girls adding to the side door, making it very inviting. Using her trademark full color illustrations, Lin presents readers with a gentle story of culture and celebration as well as problem solving. Despite being identical each girl comes off as unique, with her own strengths and weaknesses. Ting's unique hairstyle allows readers to identify which girl is which throughout the story. The girls work together to solve the problem. The title page and each chapter introduction showcase a full page illustration with the girls sharing a Lunar New Year related joke. This early reader chapter book presents readers with a fun way to learn about the Lunar New Year holiday while enjoying the antics of the two sisters. The illustrations are lovely, as always. Another winning title for a talented creator. Highly recommended.
