Candy corn is used to being left on the shelf long after Halloween ends, but this year, they’ve had enough of being limited to one holiday. It’s time to join the ranks of Christmas sweet treats for a new festive adventure. But there’s one problem… All the Christmas candies agree candy corn is nota Christmas treat! Can holiday joy really be shared with everyone—even candy that doesn’t seem to belong?
REVIEW
What does uneaten candy corn do after Halloween is over (besides get stale)? After becoming bored, the candy corn seek out the delightful sounds and smells coming from the living room. To their delight, a Christmas tree with all the trimmings along with a glowing reindeer, elf on the shelf, and treats indicate another holiday has arrived. The candy corn jump into the celebration with all their numerous feet. The chaos leads to a candy cane chewing them out and insisting they leave. The arrival of Santa changes things however, especially when he puts a candy corn in his mouth! What shiny white teeth he has! With a gentle nudge, he reminds the candy cane (and everyone else) that Christmas is for everyone. The sweet (literally and figuratively) message shines through in word and text. The delightful illustrations provide many fun details for children to enjoy and even adults will smile at the inclusion of a Venn diagram comparing candy corn and candy canes. Although the ending leaves one wondering just what qualifies as a Christmas dream when one is an eatable candy cane. Hmmm. You will need to decide for yourself if this qualifies as a happy ending or not. A sweet treat of a book with loads of humor and plenty of fun details (black paint dripping on the head of an unhappy candy corn, anyone?).
