REVIEW
Alpacas Here, Alpacas There introduces young readers to alpacas that live in North America and South America. A vibrant combination of poetic and expository text makes the book versatile in it's presentation. Each colorful two-page spread shows the way alpacas live in North America vs. South America. So the differences and similarities can be seen plainly in both the art and the text. For a quicker read, the poetic text works really well with it's catchy rhythm and rhyme. For more in depth learning the explanatory text adds additional information. The artistic details highlight differences in culture as well as habitats. The back matter includes both an author's note and an artist's note as well as additional information about alpacas and their relatives. It's especially helpful to have descriptions of the other South American camelids since they are so similar. An explanation of alpaca-raising practices, a glossary, and selected sources rounds out the useful back matter. A fun book for sharing with young readers eager to learn about this unusual animal. The poetic text and appealing art make the book especially fun to use in classrooms. Highly recommended.
