REVIEW

All the jungle animals are sleeping, making various noises as they do, at least until the elephant lets out a giant snore.  With all the noise sounds included in the text, this book makes for a fun read aloud.  Boynton's illustrations use her typical cartoon-like style that has so much appeal for young readers/listeners.  Young listeners who hear the book a number of times are bound to start making the sounds themselves.  And the ending does bring a smile to one's face or a giggle in the case of a young listener.  There are two audio files that the book references that add to the enjoyment of the story.  The first audio file is a read aloud by Keith Boynton with sound effects by Yo-Yo Ma on his cello.  The second audio file is a song that goes with the story performed by Yo-Yo Ma.  A delightful combination of story and sound that children are bound to enjoy.

REVIEW

Oakley, a squirrel, goes looking for the letter z.  He looks in all sorts of places such as under his bed, in the closet, in his drawers, and throughout the house.  When he can't find z in the house he goes outside to look around.  Finally, exhausted Oakley falls asleep where he finally finds his zzzz.  Not only is the text delightful with lots of alliteration on each page, but the illustrations are amazing.  Using adorable sets and real squirrels, Nancy Rose has created stunning photographs with lots of fun details.  The amount of work that must have gone into each photograph is astounding.  A wonderful alphabet book that both parents and children can enjoy.

REVIEW

Spencer, a cat, loves his family and spending time with them.  This short board book highlights each member of Spencer's family and what he loves doing with them.  Reading with his mother, baking with his father, dancing with his sister and other things with the rest of his family.  This tall, slender book is great for young hands and would make a great way to talk to young listeners or readers about family and how we show love for each other.  It highlights a traditional family with a mother, father, sister, brother, grandparents, and pet.

REVIEW

Spencer has had a great day playing with his toys, but now it's time to get ready for bed.  He needs to choose what pajamas to wear, have a gather supplies for a bath, wash his body, read a bedtime story, and get bedtime wishes from his family.  This cute book does a nice job highlighting bedtime routines and the materials needed to complete them.  The orderliness of it all could very well help parents teach their children about such routines.  Spencer is a cute cat, bound to appeal to a lot of young children.
