ABOUT THE BOOK

Moby Shinobi and his dog Toby are excited for a day at the beach! Moby tries to use his ninja skills to build a huge sand castle, catch some fish, and save a leaking sailboat... but each try ends in a mess! What if Moby isn't right for the job? With easy-to-read rhyming text and full-color artwork throughout, this early reader series is sure to be a hit with beginning readers!

REVIEW

Having read a couple of the early reader Moby Shinobi books, I was looking forward to reading this longer chapter book story about Moby.  And while the book is cute enough, I didn't love it.  Moby heads to the beach with his dog, Toby.  In the first chapter, they pack the supplies they think they'll need.  Once at the beach, Moby is presented with several challenges.  First, his friends want him to help them build a sandcastle.  Then Moby tries to help a fisherman.  Finally, he sets out to rescue a stranded sailboat.  Moby's initial efforts usually fail, but he persists and manages to find a way to accomplish his goal.  The illustrations are the best part of the book.  They are bright and colorful and appealing.  I had a problem with the rhyming text. It just didn't feel as smooth and flowing as I would have liked.  I have to wonder if the text would have been better without the rhyming.  Early readers who want Ninja books though are bound to enjoy Moby's adventures.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Bumble and Bee love to buzz around the pond and make mischief. Their cranky best friend Froggy prefers the peace and quiet of sitting on a lily pad. They may be an unlikely trio, but no matter what these friends dream up -- from picture day problem-solving to a comical cure for the hiccups -- you can count on hilarious, unexpected FUN!

REVIEW

Bumble and Bee are bright and cheerful and love to have fun.  Their friend Froggy is the opposite, rather grumpy.  In the first story, Bumble and Bee want to take a picture of all three of them, but Froggy refuses to smile.  The second story involves Bumble and Bee trying to cure Froggy of the hiccups, with rather amusing results (although I'm sure Froggy did not find it funny).  And in the third story, Bumble and Bee try to get Froggy to Waggle Dance.  I enjoyed this book, the characters make great foils for each other, Bumble's and Bee's enthusiasm is contagious, and the results are quite amusing.  This makes for a fun read for young readers.
