REVIEW

As a librarian, A Book for Everyone spoke to my heart. Piper, who readers met in All the Books, returns with a determination to win the yearly reading challenge sponsored by the public library. She eagerly gets her paws on the books on the reading list and starts devouring them. Piper's friend, Gregory, shows no interest in reading any of the books on the list. He prefers to play pirate. This fact disappoints Piper who finds all the books on the list interesting. Librarians, teachers, and young readers may even recognize the books as Piper describes them to her best friend in an effort to get him to join the challenge. Three straight days of rain provides Piper with plenty of time to read her books until she gets down to the final one on the list. Gregory shows up bored out of his mind. When Piper explains that her book has taken her to a warm Caribbean island with pirates, she finally catches his interest. As he eagerly reads the book, Piper frets that she won't have time to finish it before the contest ends the next day. This book made me smile all over the place. Not just the story, which I loved, but also the gorgeous illustrations. As they usually do, the Roccos hit it out of the park. The way the illustrations include white outlines of the characters in the books being read will lead readers to eagerly try to figure out the real life books referenced. The reading challenge list is included under the front book jacket flap for interested readers. A lovely story of friendship and the joys of shared activities and finding the perfect book. Highly recommended.
