REVIEW

In the first of what I hope will be many books about Bat and Snake, the friends discover a box. Eagerly they open the box, hoping to find some cheese. After removing the small purple wrapped package, Bat looks at the 'in-struc-tions' and reads all the different languages the 'in-struc-tions' include. Snake turns the box into a pretend store, a snail shell, and a lamp. Piggie shows up and asks who's name is on the box. Bat and Snake fall apart after they realize they opened a package intended for someone else (Piggie). Piggie of course cares more about the purple wrapped package and lets Bat and Snake keep the parts they liked. Note: there is cheese in this book just not how you might think. Willems has created another fun duo who are likely to become as beloved as Elephant and Piggie. The same fun that kids connect to in the Elephant and Piggie books shines through here. All the elements (characters, plot, and relatability) come together here in a winning package. Highly Recommended.

I look forward to sharing this one with students in the fall.
