FANTASTIC FRIDAY: Meesh the Bad Demon, The Secret of the Fang by Michelle Lam
ABOUT THE BOOK
When Meesh banded together with Fairy Princess Nouna to save the underworld, she never expected she’d have to… do it again someday. Though, as Meesh grows into her newly discovered destiny as the Guardian of the world, she figured there would be a few minor rescues, maybe some crime-fighting here or there.
But before long, her new friend Chai’s family is forced out of their home by an evil force who threatens to destroy all of fox-kind if they dare stay. Meesh suspects the same masked villain she faced before is behind all of this, but will she be able to stop them before it's too late?
REVIEW
In this follow-up to Meesh the Bad Demon, Meesh and her friends discover that the masked villain they confronted previously is out for revenge. Meesh, a young demon, as the newly chosen Guardian for her city, feels responsible to stop this new threat. But even with the help of her friends, both demon, fairy, and fox-kind, will she be able to save all their homes? Meesh, a very appealing heroine, stands out among demons because of her compassionate and accepting heart. But with the powers offered through her new fang necklace, she's determined to save the day. An interesting twist arises though when she finds herself empathizing with the villain. While this reads like a superhero story, in the end it's not the superhero powers that turn out to be the most important, but the internal heart, goodness, and hope Meesh carries inside. And while the ending proves to be rather too good to be true, it's certainly a satisfying ending for the duology. The art and coloring are very appealing and bound to be popular. Themes of friendship, acceptance, and courage shine through clearly. Recommended.
