DINOSAUR HOLIDAY PICTURE BOOKS : Gigantosaurus: The Holiday Party & Dinosaur Christmas by Penny Dale
ABOUT THE BOOK
It's the shortest day
of the year, and Mazu, Tiny, Rocky, and Bill are feeling awfully gloomy.
When the sun rises so late and sets so early, there's barely enough
daylight to do anything, let alone something fun. So when Tiny decides
to cheer everyone up with an extravagant holiday party, all of the
dinosaurs in Cretacea are excited--and Tiny even invites the fearsome
Giganto. But a last-minute bash is tough to pull off, and pretty soon
everything from the decorations to the presents has gone wrong. Can Tiny
salvage it all and throw the holiday party she promised?
REVIEW
This picture book is based on an episode of the children's TV show Gigantosaurus. The story focuses on young Tiny who proposes a party to celebrate the shortest day of the year, proving to her friends that the shortest day of the year isn't a day to be sad and depressed. After spending a lot of time inviting all her friends, Tiny is left with little time to put the party together and so she isn't ready when her friends show up. But Giganto's appears and helps revive the party. While not a book that stands out, young readers who are fans of the show will undoubtedly like it. The bonus stickers are a nice touch.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Our favorite dinosaurs
are back, and this time they must save Santa Claus from a snowstorm!
Join them as they plow the road, whizz down a mountain on snowmobiles,
zoom through the icy water on a hovercraft, and much more! But where is
Santa? And will they manage to dig out his sleigh in time for Christmas
day?
REVIEW
When Santa's sleigh gets stuck in the snow, he calls a dinosaur rescue crew for help. Catchy refrains and fun sounds lead the dinosaurs to the North Pole to save Santa and Christmas. Plowing roads, whizzing on snowmobiles, zooming on a hovercraft, and searching for Santa's house all play a part in the dinosaurs' adventures. (That hovercraft is pretty awesome!). Young dinosaur and vehicle lovers will get an especially big kick out of reading this tale of rescue and holiday fun. Dale's detailed illustrations offer much to be discussed and admired. The end papers identify each type of dinosaur (front) and each type of vehicle (back) so that young readers can correctly identify them. A fun holiday tale blending several winning ideas (you can't lose with Christmas, dinosaurs, and vehicles).
