REVIEW
The tender poem at the heart of this book shares some of the sweet feelings and experiences that can accompany Christmas. Those feelings and experiences are illustrated using a mother and child reindeer as the focal point. The shiny paper used for snow in the air, snow on the trees, and a shining lake makes the illustrations really stand out and sparkle with life. A short, sweet celebration of the best the Christmas season has to offer.
ABOUT THE BOOK
It's Christmas Eve, and
everyone is fast asleep except for a lonely mouse that lives in the
grandfather clock. When Santa arrives, lost in a blizzard and called by
Mouse's wish, it's Mouse who is there to show Santa the way. Together
they embark on a magical sleigh ride, delivering presents all around
town. But the best present of all is for Mouse: his wish to make a new
friend to share Christmas Day with has finally come true.
REVIEW
Based on Clement Moore's The Night Before Christmas poem, this book follows the experiences of a small mouse who is awake on the night before Christmas. The mouse's greatest desire is to find a friend and give gifts to him/her. After making a wish on a Christmas tree star, the mouse finds himself meeting Santa Claus himself who got blown off track by a storm. The mouse serves as a guide to Santa and helps deliver gifts to the families in his town. He's sad when it's time for Santa to leave, but not for long when Santa gives him a gift and a map. Could it be his wish will come true? Corderoy's story of loneliness and service provides a touching reminder of what Christmas is really all about. The mixed media illustrations nicely compliment the sweetness of the story. And the ending is perfectly satisfying if not totally unexpected.
