REVIEW
In this first book in a new series about real dogs doing real work, readers learn about Henry, a border collie, working with his human partner Ian Banbury, searches for people lost in avalanches. Not only does the reader learn about what Ian and Henry do, but how they were trained to do it. It's a fascinating look at valuable partnerships that can exist between dogs and humans. I found the details regarding how the dog and man work to be especially fascinating. The way Henry rides on Ian's skis or is carried on his shoulders was impressive to read about. The in-between sections provide background information about how the dogs get into the program and the training they undergo. It's really quite impressive to read about. The full-color photos at the end are a great bonus as they give the reader a glimpse into the exhausting, yet rewarding work of Henry and Ian.

Enhanced with breathtaking photographs and amazing canine facts, this true story of a hero's journey from adorable puppy to skilled Urban Search and Rescue dog is proof that real life superheroes walk--and bark--among us.
REVIEW
Halo, a Dutch Shepherd puppy is energetic, curious, and loves to play games. Those qualities lead Captain Kristian Labrada, known as Cat, to choose her as her next trainee. While many dogs don't make it through disaster response training, the book shows the reader just why Halo does. I enjoyed reading about Halo's exploits as she undergoes her training. The additional information about the requirements for a dog to qualify as a disaster response dog is helpful background information. The information about getting involved with dog training is a nice bonus. The photographs at the back of the book are a really fun touch. This is a great series for young dog lovers who like their stories nonfictional but just as compelling as a fictional story. The book is easy to read with just enough detail. A fun series all around.
