REVIEW

The size of this book is perfect.  It's a big book for a big topic.  This book looks at a wide variety of different topics related to space and the earth itself.  The brief sections of text combined with the attractive illustrations make for a fun and fascinating journey into the unknown.  I appreciated the fact that the author made it clear at several points in the book that there is still a great deal that we, as humans, don't know.  Topics covered include: the solar system, planets, the moon, space travel, light, black holes, and more.  The book also contains a poster showing northern and southern constellations on one side, with an illustration of the galaxy on the other.  I'd highly recommend this book for middle grade readers who love learning about space. I would have liked to see a glossary for the challenging words, but otherwise this is a great book.

Ages 6-8

REVIEW

I found A Journey Through Space to be an enjoyable and informative read with cute illustrations highlighting each topic.  The book offers two page spreads on a variety of topics including the Solar System, Planets, the Sun, the Moon, asteroids, galaxies, and space travel.  I found the information about the various satellites and probes to be especially fascinating.  The book cover turns into a fun poster for young readers fascinated by space.  There is a fun quiz at the end of the book to reinforce learning.

REVIEW

Jenny, Chen, and Kim are flying on the space shuttle to visit the space station.  This book follows their adventures as they fly there, work there, and live there.  While this is a fictionalized story, the things that the characters do are real, such as taking photographs on a spacewalk, fixing the malfunctioning robot, and conducting experiments.  The illustrations are cute and appealing.  This is a fun book for introducing the job of astronaut to young children.  There are other books in the series looking at other occupations.

REVIEW

Night Sky Watcher makes for a fascinating and fun guide for young space lovers.  I found the book informative, well-designed, and useful.  For someone like me who has always had a hard time with constellations this book makes a fabulous guide.  The book briefly covers the following topics: Night Sky Essentials, Star-Hopping, The Planets, The Moon, and Unusual Sights.  The purpose of this book is to be a guide that helps young readers actually look at the sky and find the things being talked about.  It gives tips for the best ways to do this.  The gorgeous photographs and brief paragraphs makes this a great book for browsers and reluctant readers.  The book comes in a cover that can be zippered giving the book greater protection and portability.  Recommended for kids who love to look at the stars.
