As a librarian I found this book of particular interest. This is a Library Book begins with a comic section introducing the idea of libraries as being more than just a place of books. Libraries underground? On the back of a camel? Lending cookware? Yes, it turns out, libraries can be all those things. The whole book explores the question of just what a library is, leaving the reader the right to decide what they think of the idea of sharing knowledge. Interactive features such as questions, a game, and websites for a variety of libraries adds to the fun. Descriptions are given for a few famous ancient libraries, some unusual modern libraries, as well as information about some of the unexpected things that some libraries lend such as therapy dogs, and even 'humans' (at least their time). Censorship and the destruction of libraries is covered briefly as well. The excellent information provides readers with a fascinating look at libraries and why they are important. The illustrations nicely compliment the text with lots of eye-catching details. Recommended not only for teachers and librarians but for young people who had no idea that libraries could come in so many different forms.
