EARLY READER FICTION : Nat the Cat Has a Hat/Stop That Mop!

ABOUT THE BOOK
Nat the Cat has a hat. Pat the Rat has a nicer hat. Nat the Cat wants a hat like that. Will the two friends have a spat?
REVIEW
Nat the Cat's jealousy gets the better of him when Pat the Rat seems to get nicer hats. The author/illustrator provides the additional hats Nat desires until the author mentions how silly he is being and he demands that they have no hats at all. When Nat notices that Pat the Rat feels really sad about having no hat, the author/illustrator/narrator provides a solution that pleases everyone. This fun book works well for beginning readers with its dark lines, large text size, and one to two short sentences per page. In fact, it's remarkable how much can be conveyed through facial expressions and a few words. Nat the Cat may be a bit of a selfish grump, but ultimately he does agree to the narrator/author's surprising (and amusing) suggestion. A fun addition to a great series for young readers.
