PICTURE BOOK REVIEW : This Book is Dangerous! by Ben Clanton

ABOUT THE BOOK
Did the title just say that this book is dangerous? Jelly doesn't do dangerous. Can you help Jelly find a way out? Just don't move a muscle or make any loud noises, okay? And definitely DON'T touch anything!
While everything seems to come sunny-side up for Narwhal on their adventures, Jelly has more than a few worries about the many dangers out there in the sea serpents, pirate crabs, circus cannons, lost porcupines, and spiky things of any kind could be lurking around each turn of the page! In the tradition of interactive classics like The Monster at the End of This Book, Jelly has got to find a way out of this book, and it's up to the reader to help this little jellyfish . . . or not!
REVIEW
Many young readers will enjoy this tale of danger. Jellyfish flees the danger mentioned in the title, yet in his desire to escape he misses all the warnings and immediately finds himself facing a group of sea monsters. Unfortunately, he escapes one danger only to face an underwater cannon which the reader touches causing it to explode. Jellyfish's frustrations boil over as further dangers arise involving many large teeth. But it turns out that Jellyfish isn't the only one to face dangerous things. The lopsided conversation encourages readers to do the exact opposite of what Jellyfish demands leading to more danger until the rather sweet ending. Jellyfish's reactions jump off the page as he turns bright red in fury at times while fleeing in fear in others and delivering tongue-in-cheek warnings. Clanton's well-known characters draw readers in as does the load of sharp, white teeth on the cover. Loads of fun for readers who enjoy a strong dash of mayhem and danger in their stories. The book works well as either a read-aloud for story times or for solo reading. The large, text makes for easy reading encouraging giggles of excitement from readers/listeners. Recommended.
