This clever interactive picture book takes readers through a basic introduction to solids, liquids, and gases by having readers 'tap, shake, tilt, twirl, and push' as they read the book. 'Smashing' clay, 'squeezing' cherries, and 'blowing' bubbles involve young readers in 'changing' the matter while learning about matter. The concrete examples make the content easy to understand and the book very entertaining as well as informative. As the author & illustrator walk readers through the changing forms of matter, they also introduce the scientific method and the importance of asking questions. The back matter includes information about how the human body is matter as well. And there is a simple science experiment for children to do (with an adult's help) demonstrating some of the book's principles in action. The book provides an excellent introduction to basic science in an easy-to-read and understand way while providing some great interactive elements. The digital illustrations are bright and appealing. They highlight the interactivity of the book while not overwhelming the text. A fabulous title perfect for STEM programs. The interactive nature of the book makes it a bit better for one-on-one reading, but with some adaptations could be used for story times as well. Highly recommended.
