PICTURE BOOK REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Turkey's Sandtastic Beach Day by Wendi Silvano & Lee Harper



ABOUT THE AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR

Wendi Silvano was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has lived in Oregon, Colorado, and Peru. The author of the Turkey Trouble series, she has a BA in early childhood education and taught preschool and elementary school for eleven years. She is the mother of five children and the owner of an assortment of odd pets that are not nearly as clever as Turkey. Lee Harper is the author-illustrator of the books Coyote, The Emperor’s Cool Clothes, and Snow! Snow! Snow! In addition to the Turkey Trouble series, Lee is also the illustrator of Looking for the Easy Life by Walter Dean Myers and the Woolbur series, written by Leslie Helakoski. Lee has four children, a German shepherd, two barn cats, two pigs, eleven chickens, and four sheep . . . but still no turkeys. Yet. He lives with his wife in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. REVIEW

Turkey and his friends travel to the beach with Farmer Jake. But Farmer Jake puts them into the petting zoo.  Turkey wants to visit and enjoy the beach.  With the help of his animal friends, he attempts various disguises that allow him to sneak down to the beach.  Unfortunately, he keeps getting caught by either the lifeguard or Farmer Jake. Somehow the formula that Silvano & Harper use doesn't get old with all the animal puns, disguises, and Turkey's enthusiasm and determination. In fact the thing I was looking forward to the most when I picked up the book was discovering what funny disguises Turkey would use to accomplish his goal. And as always, Harper's illustrations are delightful and funny. A surefire winner for your readers who are already Turkey fans or for young readers who are meeting him for the first time.
