Geraldine Pu and Her Cat Hat, Too follows Geraldine and her awesome cat hat who she calls Mao Matzo. Her little brother loves the hat too which leads to some sibling rivalry. But after a visit with Amah to the salon, Geraldine thinks her hair is boring. And with picture day coming up, Geraldine decides she wants to try something new. But her efforts to curl her hair leads to disaster for both her and her brother. But with Amah's help Geraldine comes to realize how important it is to be true to who you are and not just follow everyone else. I found this book quite enjoyable. Not only does it teach young readers how to read comic style panels and speech bubbles, but presents the fun story with delightful illustrations and an attractive design. The large text makes for easier reading. Geraldine makes a sympathetic character as she struggles with wanting to belong and an irritating little brother. A note at the end of the book about hair and instructions for creating a self-portrait collage add to the fun of the book. I also appreciated the notes at the beginning about Geraldine's Taiwanese heritage and word pronunciation. This is a delightful entry in this fun new series for young readers who enjoy the graphic/comic format as well as a fun, relatable story.

Sprinkles and Swirls, cupcakes, escape from the bakery where the live in order to visit a waterpark. After putting on their swimming suits (I found it rather amusing to see two cupcakes in swimming suits), Sprinkles and Swirls head out to enjoy the park. After enjoying the water slide, they try some floating, sunbathing, and a fountain. Along the way they deal with ants, some pesky puppies, and getting stuck on the fountain. After refreshing their frosting, Sprinkles and Swirls head back to the bakery where they start planning for future activities. Some amusing details helped elevate this book past simply good to really good. I loved Sprinkles fanny pack. I'm pretty sure that fanny pack is related to Mary Poppins magic carpet bag, considering the number and size of the things Sprinkles pulls out of it. Another fun detail is the way Sprinkles' and Swirls' frosting kept going flying or crooked. One of my favorite details is the illustration showing Sprinkles getting ready to jump off the diving board, but the diving board appears in outer space demonstrating how tall Sprinkles thinks it is after Swirls tells her to close her eyes. The illustrations are plenty cute and enjoyable. I think plenty of young readers will enjoy Sprinkles' and Swirls' adventures.
