REVIEW

This delightful story provides an explanation for how pencil and eraser came together.  Pencil loves to draw and is very good at it.  Pencil is not impressed when Eraser erased some of the picture Pencil drew. Pencil tries to ignore Eraser, but Eraser continues to change Pencil's pictures. Finally, Pencil tries to stump Eraser's creativity only to find that working together has it's benefits.  I loved the illustrations in this book.  The detailed pencil drawings mixed in with the eraser marks.  The illustrator even included eraser pieces just like when using a real eraser.  Pencil's facial expressions are one of the best parts of the whole book. Overall a clever take on the power of combining talents and working together.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Meet the Markers! They love to color. But Purple Marker colors everywhere—even outside the lines. When the other markers call his creativity a mistake, it’s up to Pencil and Eraser to help Purple discover how making mistakes and making art go hand-in-hand.

This hilarious and clever picture book allows Pencil and Eraser to show Purple Marker—and the rest of us—how to turn our messes into successes and do what makes us happy.

When Pencil Met the Markers brings engaging art, adorable characters, and a clever story to the everyday. The result? A funny, effective message about how the best art can come from trying something new.

REVIEW

In this sequel to the delightful, When Pencil Met Eraser, readers meet a box of markers that love to color.   Purple especially loves to color, in and outside of the lines.  This coloring outside of the lines shocks the other markers who don't find it appropriate at all.  The criticism makes Purple feel blue.  Purple leaves to color alone.  Along comes Pencil and Eraser who encourage Purple to color without lines.  After Purple colors, pencil and eraser add details, turning round shapes into a bunch of grapes, a colored in six shape into a bird, and a smear into a cupcake.  The other markers realize that coloring inside the lines may not always be the best way to go and that working together can lead to some cool things.  I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel, just as I enjoyed the first book.  The art is delightfully creative and the characters enjoyable.  This would make a great book to combine with Drew Daywalt's The Day the Crayons' Quit about the power of trying new things.
