REVIEW

In this amusing tale of mystery and mayhem, two alligators investigate the disappearance of a famous chef.  In the process they stumble across another crime involving the theft of a mysterious device called the Thingamabob.  Using secret passages through toilets and mustache disguises, Mango and Brash seek to find the perpetrators.  This fun new series would be perfect for young readers who love the Dog Man series by Dav Pilkey.  There is the same wackiness and silly humor that so many young readers enjoy.  The brightly colored graphics show Mango and Brash's adventures off as they break dance their way to victory.  The wackiness of the story means that were-helicopters, awkward brain surgeries, and cracker villains don't seem out of place at all.  An enjoyable addition to middle grade graphic novel collections everywhere.

REVIEW

I've eagerly awaited this final book in the HiLo series.  At least I thought it would be the final book.  I was delighted to discover that their will be yet more books in the series, even though this sixth book does end this particular story arc.  I found this book to be a fitting end to an epic series.  While not everything ended happily, things did end appropriately.  HiLo and Razorwark's final confrontation has come.  Choices will have to be made, sacrifices made, and lives changed. HiLo's final battle with Razorwark is fierce and fiery and yet it doesn't end the way I was thinking it might.  I'll admit when I first read about Izzy's helping both HiLo and Razorwark, I was confused, but now that those questions have been answered, the title of the book seems fiting, all the pieces fit.  There are a lot of great graphic novel series available currently, but I happen to think this is one of the best.  Not only is the story exciting and action-packed, but there are some powerful underlying themes as well.  These books aren't just about good versus evil, but about how evil became evil, and how sometimes making the right choice means giving everything you have.  If you have a young graphic novel lover in your life, I highly recommend this beautifully done series.
