REVIEW
The thing that jumped out at me when I started reading Poetry Comics was how utterly relatable the book feels. So many of the poems reminded me of experiences of my own, happy memories from the past. The other thing I noticed immediately is the beautifully imagery conveyed through words and images. The text and pictures work together seamlessly to create simple yet often profound feelings. Divided into the four seasons, each section highlights experiences related to those seasons such as the weather, exploration, enjoying nature, imagination, and beauty. The poems about writing poetry especially resonated with me. Full of powerful reminders this is a book to read again and again allowing oneself to experience it all anew. Combining the beauty of poetry with the appeal of graphic panels, children are bound to find much to enjoy here. But the book shouldn't be enjoyed by children alone, many adults will enjoy this book as well. This is a book I will return to again and again. Highly, highly recommended.
NOTE: I also used the book with fourth grade students which worked beautifully. I was delighted to see the poetry comics they were able to create.
