If I Could Choose a Best Day shares poetry selected to highlight themes of hope, relationships, and possibilities. The word if shines bright in the chosen poems as the poets remind readers of the possibilities that exist in nature, in ourselves, each other, and in the future. Sua's stunning collage illustrations encourage readers to enjoy the possibilities of today and imagine the possibilities of tomorrow. Poems such as these work perfectly for sharing with children with much to discuss in terms of imagery both literal and figuratively. For classrooms, it would be fun to read the poem and have the students illustrate it before sharing the book's illustration. Comparisons and contrasts would be easy to make between what the illustrator imagined and what the students might imagine. There is much here to enjoy as well as ponder. Highly recommended.
