BLOG TOUR : Julius and Macy, A Very Brave Night by Annelouise Mahoney
Julius and Macy like to play heroes. Julius pretends he’s the defender of the forest, while Macy has a quieter strength. When their snack disappears one night, they decide to track down the only one who could have taken it—the Night Goblin. They both have to be brave in their own ways, and they ultimately discover that the real thief isn’t anything like they imagined.
“Watercolor illustrations further the text’s magical qualities by adding important details, such as the solitary nature of Sherwin’s home. Softly glowing with campfire and starlight, this tale is an inviting bedtime story and a gentle ode to kindness.” ―Booklist

REVIEW
As Julius and Macy learn in this sweet story, being brave doesn't always mean being a hero. Sometimes reaching out to someone without knowing what the result can be can require being brave. Julius, a badger, and his friend, Macy, a mouse, love to play superheroes in the forest each evening. Julius loves to defend the forest, while Macy likes to help those in need. One night they stop to enjoy their snack only to find it missing. The muster their courage and set out to capture the supposed thief : the Night Goblin. But when they discover who the thief really is, the two friends need to decide just what kind of bravery is required. Stories of friendship and kindness never go out of style, and this one is particularly sweet. Julius's louder, more obvious bravery is complimented by Macy's quieter courage, but both prove to be important. The illustrations are absolutely adorable and are bound to appeal to a wide audience. A tender story about the power of friendship and imagination and the importance of kindness that is bound to be enjoyed by many a young reader/listener.
