BOARD BOOK REVIEWS : Baby Loves Hearing! & Baby Loves Sight! by Ruth Spiro
ABOUT THE BOOK
Explores the science behind the sense of hearing, and technical advances that can help people with impaired hearing.
REVIEW
This educational board book presents the basic sound concepts of vibration, amplitude, and frequency. An explanation and diagram of the ear are also included. Using music as the introduction, young children are presented with information about sound. Information about hearing aides and those who can't hear at all are included. I haven't used this book with children so I can't say how effective it is, but the book is well put together and the diagrams and colorful illustrations are appealing and useful. A great book for those who want to help their children understand the sense of hearing.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Baby loves the five
senses! Accurate enough for experts, yet simple enough for baby, this
clever board book explores the science of vision, light, and color.
Beautiful, visually stimulating illustrations complement age-appropriate
language to encourage baby's sense of wonder. Parents and caregivers
may learn a thing or two as well.
REVIEW
For those looking to explain to young children the concepts of light, color, and vision, this board book does a nice job of explaining those concepts. The illustrations show baby waking up, playing in a sandbox, and enjoying a rainbow. Mixed in with the illustrations of baby are diagrams showing the basic concepts of light, how the eyes work, and color and rainbows. I haven't used the book with actual children so I don't know how easily these rather abstract concepts will be for them to understand, but the book does provide a nice introduction for those who want to start their children's education at a young age.
