REVIEW

This adorable book follows the misadventures of a young fox who leaves the den by himself for the first time. With his mother's permission, Mungo sets out to find some berries to fill his still hungry belly. But being on his own proves to be a bit scarier than he imagined. He faces a cool wind, sounds in the bushes, and a fall into the creek before having to pass an owl and cross a road to reach his destination. Along the way he wonders if he should simply return home but the memory of his mother's guidance provides the needed inspiration to keep going. A frolic in the snow provides a bit of fun before he returns to the den and his mother. Young readers will cheer Mungo on in his growing independence as the little fox learns for the first time just how tough life can be sometimes. Not just a cute story, this adventuresome book shows children that independence can be scary but worth the effort leaving Mungo with a great story to share with his mother. The illustrations add the perfect touch to this relatable story of a young fox facing his fears. Recommended.
