REVIEW
This delightful graphic novel for early readers follows the friendship between a chicken and a worm. Chicken is very cranky as demonstrated through an unibrow that is almost perpetually hovering low over the eyes. When Cranky Chicken inadvertently rescues a worm named Speedy from a vicious leaf, Speedy refuses to accept anything accept friendship in return. Cheerful, fast-moving Speedy makes an amusing contrast to the annoyed-by-everything Chicken. Chapter 2 revolves around the two friends discovering exactly what Best Feathered Friends do as BFFs. It turns out, neither one really knows, but they try hard. And what will happen in Chapter 3 when Speedy longs to fly and Chicken refuses? Not what you might expect is what happens. For young readers who enjoy amusing, graphic novel stories about two rather unexpected friends, this is a great book to hand them. With a title like Cranky Chicken, how could it not be a winner!
