REVIEW
This delightfully different Christmas story follows a young meerkat named Sunny. He longs desperately for a 'Perfect Christmas'. But the way his magazine defines a perfect Christmas does not fit at all with the Christmas his family is putting together involving decorating cacti, painting snakes to look like candy canes, and bugs as ornaments. So Sunny leaves to find his perfect Christmas. He visits his friend Kev at the beach, Trevor among the trees, Robin in the rain, Penguins at the South Pole, and at home with the mice. Despite his efforts, none of the places Sunny visits are quite right. It seems there is no perfect Christmas. Can Santa help young Sunny find where he belongs for Christmas or is Sunny bound to be disappointed? With 7 festive flaps showing letters as Sunny communicates with his family, the reader follows Sunny's journey through hope and disappointment. Eventually, the reader, along with Sunny, realizes that Christmas is in the heart of the beholder, and nothing can replace family. Gravett's adorable illustrations make for a fun story time with lots of enjoyable details. A great story for reading and sharing at Christmas.
