BLOG TOUR w/ GIVEAWAY: Duck and Hippo in the Rainstorm by Jonathan London
ABOUT THE BOOK
Duck and Hippo may be completely different, but they are best friends. When playful Duck invites careful Hippo to go for a walk in the rain, they have trouble sharing Duck’s umbrella. But Duck and Hippo won’t let that stop them. Soon they are puddle-jumping and sailing down the river! Until…WHOOOSH! A terrible wind sends the umbrella flying up, up, up into the air, with one friend holding on. What will Duck and Hippo do now? Jonathan London’s charming text and Andrew Joyner’s delightful art bring to life two lovable friends in this fun new series.

REVIEW
Jonathan London, the author of the Froggy books, has created two more memorable characters. Duck and Hippo are very different with Duck being the more adventurous of the two. But Hippo agrees to go adventuring in the rain if Duck will share her umbrella. It takes them a few tries to figure out how to cover both of them with the umbrella, but they finally accomplish it and take off for fun in the rain. Not only is this a delightful book full of fun and friendship, but it also shows how to solve problems when they arise, making it a great book for teaching children that skill. Joyner's delightfully colorful illustrations highlight beautifully the characters with Duck wearing a bright red raincoat and Hippo wearing a suit, bow tie, and rain boots. The characterizations are spot on and conveyed through storytelling and the illustrations rather than through telling, making this a great book for teaching inference as well. A fun book that can read for learning or just for enjoyment.
