ABOUT THE AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR
John Skewes is a professional illustrator living in Seattle, WA. He began work as a product designer and character artist for Disney Consumer Products before leaving to start his own company, Retrodyne Industries, in 2001. His clients include Warner Bros., Hanna-Barbera, Fox, Pixar, and Simon & Schuster. As the creator and illustrator of the award-winning Larry Gets Lost children's book series, John has followed Larry from the southern tip of Texas to tiny Nome, Alaska, and has been lost several times himself. He has illustrated over 20 children's books, including the Flintstones, Tom and Jerry, and Alvin and the Chipmunks.
REVIEW
Showcasing a variety of things such as foods, activities, and attractions, Larry, an adorable pup and Pete, his boy, take the reader on a tour of Chicago. With a mix colors for different features, this is a cute book perfect for young Chicagoans. I especially enjoyed looking for where Pete and Larry showed up in each picture and young readers are bound to as well. Like many alphabet books there are a few letters that seem forced such as K is for kids or q is for quick or x marks the spot where Chicago is. But since those letters are usually the hardest to find appropriate words/phrases for its, its a minor issue.

REVIEW
Following Larry and Pete through San Francisco makes for an entertaining and informative look at a famous city. They visit the wharf, Nob Hill, take a ride on a trolley, as well as stopping for ice cream and looking at sea lions. The illustrations are full of vibrant colors with a vintage feel. But through it all, Larry's bright nose leads them from adventure to adventure. An alphabet book with a strong geographic flavor, San Francisco ABC fills an unusual niche in the stuffed realm of alphabet book world.
I love ABC books based in places and these are two great cities to introduce kids to through the alphabet. Looking forward to getting my hands on these. Thanks for the post!
